Hero: Nature skills that will make you, your child’s hero.
Fishing is a fun and engaging way to get kids outside. Patience from both the fisher-kid and the parents is essential to fishing and a valuable way to learn the life lesson. The first way to sabotage a family fishing trip is to tie an expectation to it. Fishing is full of variables so keeping an open mind and stoke for the experience will keep attitudes upbeat.
Being in nature doesn’t require vast expanses of wilderness and massive travel logistics. Nature can be found in every unattended patch of plants, even in major cities.

As the summer is fading into fall so are the wildflowers. Keeping a flower pressing journal can keep them around a little longer and commemorate the end of a beautiful summer.  It is also a fun activity that gets everyone outside and encourages creativity.
It's common to see most kids spending their childhoods cooped up inside with rigorous schedules. Our mission with Sawyer is to take a stand, get more kids outside, and foster growing communities that understand our connection to nature is essential. Kids don't have a lack of desire to play in nature, they simply have significantly less time to play and be kids.
We say that Sawyer exists, most simply, to encourage kids to be outdoors. The idea is that spending time outdoors and in nature is a healthy, worthwhile experience. As with any claim, it lacks credibility if not backed up by research, experience and solid evidence. By personal experience, being outdoors is awesome.Â
